Open Question: Why do people still believe in God?

Nowadays, there's all this knowledge that goes against many beliefs of the Church or, in fact many, many religions. Like the "Earth is the center of the Universe" belief. I mean, with the old beliefs of religion being proved wrong while people discover new knowledge every single day, how are followers of religion still in such high numbers? i know for sure that less than 10% of all people are "atheist". And I, who is atheist, wonder how there are still so many religious people with lots of knowledge on biology or evolution. I mean, that seems kind of stubborn to follow something that has been proven wrong a lot. Sorry, i mean to word that another way. Not that "God" is proven wrong, but lots of the beliefs. Oh and anther question. It seems a unfair that just because i don't believe in God, i'm going to hell. That sucks. Not to be stereotypical (they show this on tv or the movies all the time...), but a Latino gang member who wears a cross while they kill someone execution-style should go to Hell, right? Well, what i'm saying is most Latino people i know are pretty devout. Actually most "people" i know are pretty devout. So it seems pretty cheap... and really sucky for me, the atheist. Some of my classmates do drugs, or shoplift, or aren't virgins, and they're Christian, but they really don't seem to mind. hmm... w/e. I'm going to Hell because i don't believe in God, and it just seems that lots of people dp immoral things, or sin, well... everyone sins, but those who believe in God can repent or something. Yep, real sucky for me :/ And yet another thing. Just a statement. So if i don't believe in God, i go to Hell. Now, my parents are Buddhists and my Dad says in Buddhism, there is a sort of Hell. And i'm guessing in other religions, they have forms of Hell too, so if i believe a God in one religion, i get to go to heaven for that religion, but Hell for all the others. Well, that sucks too, but that means someone is wrong, or that everyone is wrong, or im going to a dozen different kinds of Hell. Crap. Anyways, it was just a statement... Yea so, if you guys could give me some insight on the first question in relation to modern knowledge, that'd be great.
