Open Question: Christians: If Christianity is true why are there all these other religions?

I already know that a bunch of you are going to say "Satan is trying to trick mankind!" Or some such crap, but before you go about spouting all that noise consider what I have to say. There were many religions (i.e. Hinduism, Buddhism, Shintoism, tribal religions of the Americas and Africa, etc.) around before and at the same time as Judaism (Christianity predecessor). So did the devil just make up thousands of years of culture just to trick people so that they didn't believe Christianity when they finally got exposed to it during the Age of Exploration? And would God honestly expect peoples across the globe to give up millenia of belief, tradition, and culture because some foreigners came in fancy new ships, took all of their valuable resources, and told them that they were wrong and that they should follow their strange new religion?
